Remembrance Weekend 8th - 10th November 2024

This weekend, St Luke's Bombed Out Church will mark Remembrance with an extended series of outdoor displays

From Friday to Sunday, between 5:30pm & 9:00pm, passers-by can experience an ambient projection on the church's exterior wall - a powerful rolling display of poppies & the names of WWII casualties, made possible by funding from Liverpool City Region UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Unlike traditional projection "shows," this display will run on a continuous loop each evening, making it easy to visit at any time without missing a particular moment. 

Visitors are encouraged to come at their leisure, taking in the tribute from the pavement on Leece Street & St Luke's Place. Please note that the church & grounds will remain closed during the display, allowing for a quiet & contemplative experience from outside.

In addition to the projections, St Luke's will bring back its annual Poppy Garden - a collaborative project featuring over 1,000 poppies made by children from local primary schools, installed around Andy Edward's 'Truce' statue within the church grounds. 

Created from upcycled plastic bottles, the project promotes the values of recycling & creativity whilst engaging children in the history of remembrance, producing a stunning visual tribute to those lost in war. 

The Poppy Garden will be planted on the morning of Remembrance Sunday & will be viewable from the railings on Leece Street.

And lastly, new this year, a large poppy will be installed inside the church, offering a quiet space for reflection. 

Visitors are invited to view the installation on Friday, Saturday, & Sunday from 10am until 4pm.

All displays are free to view, with donations warmly received to support the Bombed Out Church's role in Liverpool's remembrance traditions & its ongoing use as a community space.
